Why wear purple tomorrow (Monday, 8th March)

To honour International Women’s Day (IWD). Wearing the colour purple will show the world that you honour loyalty and constant work towards a cause. Purple is also the colour of self-respect, dignity and tolerance – all values well worth living by in these turbulent times.

With this year’s campaign theme of: “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”, International Women’s Day recognises the efforts made by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future, as well as their efforts towards our recovery from the Covid pandemic.

Did you know…

  • Despite women making up a majority of front-line workers, there is a disproportionately low number of women involved in national and global COVID-19 policy making.
  • Women are heads of state and government in only 20 countries worldwide
  • Exacerbated by the pandemic, women across the world are facing yet more domestic violence, unpaid care duties, unemployment and poverty.

In our view, these issues are reason enough to recognise women and get involved with IWD this year.

How you can help

As well as fishing out your best purple garments, you might like to take a moment to celebrate women’s achievements by raising the subject of women’s equality amongst your friends, workplaces and of course social media. You could even take it a step further by getting actively involved with fundraising for a female-focused charity.

But first of all, please get started by sharing this post on your social media channels!
