Remember remember… The 5th November

The 5th November. Guy Fawkes would be amused to see us still remembering the day he failed to blow up the Houses of Lords way back in 1605!

We all (except some of our furry friends at home) look forward to it each year. A chance to gather around a bonfire on a cold wintery night as we eat, drink and watch the magic of fireworks flickering across the night sky.

This year, most firework displays have been cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak. But if you can’t wait for next year’s displays, there are still some happening, although they will be different than usual with masks, social distancing and viewing from inside or near your car.

Look out for the new ‘drive through’ fireworks evenings – you might like to take a trip to see.

One of the biggest is in the Midlands, with separate events in Northampton, Peterborough and Newark. Tickets are £25 per vehicle (max six people per car). You will have to stay in the car and sit back and watch the fireworks with your own drinks and snacks. Find out more here.

Other drive through events include: Laser Lights Alive in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria on 5-7 November; Sotterley Hall Estate, Suffolk on 6-7 November; Westpoint Exeter, Devon on 7 November; and Wadebridge’s Royal Cornwall Showground on 1 November.

Have fun and stay safe!
