Its St George’s Day this Friday!

This year we’d like to wish you a very Happy St. Georges Day and Ramadan all in one!

Friday 23 April is a day of celebration all across England this year, not only because it’s our patron saint’s day, it’s the first day of Ramadan too.

In Roman times St. George supposedly slayed a dragon and saved a princess. We’ve not got any dragons to slay this year, but we are all working towards defeating Coronavirus instead.

Unlike some bank holidays, it doesn’t mean a day off work and everything stays open – of course within the confines of lockdown this year – but there’s nothing to stop us celebrating at home and online. Put up the English flag, paint the red and white flag onto yours or your children’s faces, and raise a toast to George!

As the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, Muslim residents will start focussing on fasting, prayer, purification and charity. This year is likely to be especially hard, but we do hope that you all have a safe, happy and, this year digital Ramadan – soon we will all be together with our loved ones again.
